ABOUT THIS SCHOLARSHIP
The Ms. Sharon E. Murray-Jones Memorial Scholarship was established in loving memory of Ms. Sharon E. Murray-Jones.
Through this annual scholarship, the Free School Community Children & Family Foundation, Inc. honors her life by investing in the education and future of a deserving child in financial need.
Sharon was among the first students from the Free School community to attend Titchfield High School. Her educational journey represents the importance of opportunity, determination, and the positive impact that access to education can have on a child, family, and community.
This scholarship is a lasting expression of remembrance, care, and the belief that every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed.
Education creates opportunity, builds confidence, and helps shape a brighter future. By supporting a student’s tuition, books, and uniform expenses, this scholarship serves as a meaningful tribute to Ms. Sharon E. Murray-Jones and reflects the Foundation’s commitment to helping children overcome financial barriers and thrive.
Scholarship funds are restricted to approved tuition, book, and school uniform expenses. Payments will be made directly to the educational institution and approved vendors. No cash payment will be made to the student, parent, guardian, or family.
ELIGIBILITY
Applicants must be ages 11–18
Currently enrolled in or accepted to a recognized educational institution
Demonstrate financial need
Show commitment to education
Submit all required documents
Obtain guardian consent if under 18
Allow the Foundation to verify academic and expense information
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must submit the following:
1. Completed Scholarship Application
All required sections of the scholarship application must be completed accurately. Incomplete applications may not be considered.
2. Proof of Age
Submit a clear copy of a birth certificate, passport, government-issued identification, or another official document showing the applicant’s date of birth.
3. Proof of Enrollment or Acceptance
Submit a current enrollment verification letter, acceptance letter, registration document, or other official confirmation from the educational institution.
4. Tuition Statement
Provide a current tuition invoice, fee statement, or official document showing:
• The applicant’s name.
• The educational institution’s name.
• The applicable school term or academic year.
• The tuition amount due.
• The institution’s payment information.
5. Statement of Financial Need
The applicant, parent, or guardian must provide a written explanation describing the family’s financial circumstances and why tuition assistance is needed.
6. Applicant Essay
Submit an original essay of approximately 300 to 500 words addressing:
• The applicant’s educational and career goals.
• Why education is important to the applicant.
• Challenges the applicant has experienced or overcome.
• How the scholarship would support the applicant’s education.
• How the applicant hopes to contribute positively to their family or community.
The essay should reflect the applicant’s own experiences, ideas, and voice.
7. Academic Record
Submit the applicant’s most recent report card, progress report, academic transcript, or other available record demonstrating academic participation and progress.
8. Letter of Recommendation
Provide one recommendation from a teacher, principal, guidance counsellor, coach, religious leader, community leader, or youth mentor.
The recommendation must not be written by an immediate family member.
9. Parent or Guardian Consent
Applicants younger than 18 must provide authorization from a parent or legal guardian allowing participation in the scholarship selection process and permitting the Foundation to verify submitted information.
10. Applicant Certification
The applicant and parent or guardian must certify that all submitted information is accurate, complete, and authentic. False or misleading information may result in disqualification or withdrawal of the award.
